It’s been a busy summer at Magic Lane and we’re excited to share some great new updates with you!
A year of morning runs draws a map straight to your front door. Where you live, when you leave, which way you go — a recorded route says more about you than almost anything else on your phone. Your life shouldn’t become someone else’s map.
Activities:
In Magic Earth a recorded car, bike or pedestrian activity stays on your device unless you decide otherwise. Nothing is published by default. Optional photos, videos and voice notes are never uploaded, at any visibility level. In case you want to share an activity with someone, set its visibility to Everyone — the link then appears in the Share view, ready to send through the iOS share sheet. Changed your mind? Narrow the visibility again and the link stops working. Anyone who saved the activity sees it greyed out as no longer available.
- Per-activity visibility with three levels — On this device ( by default ), Only Me, Everyone
- Photos, videos and audio are NEVER uploaded, at any visibility level
- Change any activity's visibility at any time, including back to device-only
- Redesigned activity details with an interactive, pannable route map
- Edit, Share and Delete in one place, in the activity details
- Search activities by name, place or date — including month and year
- Filter by activity type, or to the last 7 / 30 days
- Delete one activity or all of them at once
- Report an Issue with the diagnostic log and your details attached
Weather Warnings support in Route Overview:
- Know before you go. When you plan a route, we now check it against official weather warnings from national meteorological services, so severe conditions never catch you off guard.
- Every warning appears right where it matters, color coded by severity (yellow, orange, red) so you can judge the risk at a glance. Open one to see what to expect, how much of your route it affects, when it expires, and the authority that issued it with a link straight to the source ( if available ). Tap Area to light up the exact region on the map.
- Storms, extreme heat, high winds, flooding — you'll see them coming, and drive prepared.
Weather Warnings and Activities are part of Premium.

What's New
Magic Earth is now built into the car. The map, the search and the voice guidance run on your car's own screen - no phone, no cable, no pairing. This is our first release for Android Automotive OS.
Improved route information
The route info screen has grown into a full pre-departure briefing for the route you've just calculated. Alongside distance, duration and arrival time, it now shows:
- Weather along the route - forecast conditions at points along the way, so you can see what to expect on the drive rather than only at the destination
- Weather warnings - severe weather alerts affecting the route, highlighting conditions that may be worth leaving at a different time, or taking a different road for
- Restrictions along the route - the restrictions that apply to the calculated route, listed so you can review them before you start navigating
- Offline maps for the route - every country and region the route passes through is listed, and each one can be downloaded right there. Coverage for the whole trip is secured in one place, without leaving navigation to go and search the offline map catalogue.

Restrictions along the route are also flagged while you drive, so you're informed on the road and not only when planning the trip.
Map quality setting
A new map quality setting trades rendering detail for smoothness. Lowering the quality reduces the rendering workload and improves overall performance, at the cost of visual fidelity, worth it on hardware where a consistently smooth map matters more than fine detail.
- High (default) - full rendering quality, recommended for capable hardware
- Medium - balanced quality, reducing the rendering workload while preserving most visual detail
- Low - reduced quality for better performance and smoother map interaction on constrained hardware

A further optimization and hardening pass across the application:
- Improved rendering and interaction performance during active navigation
- Fewer unnecessary screen and template refreshes
- General stability hardening based on internal testing and reported issues

What's New
- New Route Planning: The route planning screen has been fully redesigned and now organizes everything into clear, easy to browse pages for route info, elevation and the route profile. Planning a trip should feel cleaner and more informative than before.
- Road Restrictions, Clearer: Restrictions along your route are now grouped by type, each with its own icon, and lighter restrictions appear in a different color so the important ones stand out at a glance.
- Offline Maps in Route Overview: You can now see the offline maps relevant to your route right in the route overview (a premium feature), making it easy to know what to download before heading out.
- Android Auto, A Step Forward: We put a lot of energy here. Starting navigation on your phone now hands over smoothly to the car when Android Auto is connected, and disconnecting hands navigation back to your phone cleanly. We also fixed voice instructions going silent after disconnecting, kept your selected map layers and points of interest respected during and after navigation, and made speed camera warnings fixes. Sound is now routed through the head unit properly, with volume staying in sync and over speed warnings behaving correctly. In short, many more of the settings you choose in the app now take effect on Android Auto too.
- Rebuilt Sound Module: We replaced the previous audio player (the one behind the warning "beeps") with a new, more reliable one. This should fixes several crashes and make warning beeps and recording playback more dependable, including improved Bluetooth call style routing. Also the “beep" now works on Android Auto.
- Smarter Traffic & Smart Routing: When live traffic is not available, the app now tells you why, right under the Traffic toggle in Map Layers.
- Privacy Friendly Media Picker: Choosing a profile picture, or adding photos and videos to your activity recordings, now uses the modern Android system photo picker. This let us remove broad media permissions from the app, so it asks for less access to your device.
- Fixes You Asked For: Favorites now correctly remember your chosen sort order when you reopen the list. We also fixed a route history bug where saving a bookmark could replace your first history entry, made the Mobile Data screen refresh properly when you open it, and fixed navigation sometimes getting stuck without engaging follow mode at the start of a trip, along with a few other issues.
- Under the Hood: Smaller fixes and stability improvements throughout. We also disabled an experimental feature that boosted performance but caused crashes on older devices in the previous update. We will bring it back once it is more stable.
